About Nate

Nate began shoeing horses in 2006 and completed his apprenticeship in 2007. Since then, he has continued to build his skills through years of hands-on experience, ongoing education, and working alongside some of the most respected farriers in the industry. Over the years he has attended clinics with Jeff Engler, Dave Wright CJF, Shane Carter CJF, Dennis Manning CJF, Chris Gregory CJF FWCF, Mitch Taylor CJF, Jim Quick, and many others.

In 2013, Nate passed the American Farrier’s Association Certified Farrier exam, and in the spring of 2017 he earned his American Farrier’s Association Certified Journeyman Farrier certification. That same summer he competed in the Colorado Classic farrier competition, where he won the First Division.

Throughout his career, Nate has had the opportunity to learn from and work with highly accomplished farriers including Josh Stanley CJF AWCF, Tom Paterson CJF, Brian Buckner CJF, Brad Grozbrech CJF, Jacob Manning CJF, Kelly Gregory CF, and many others. These experiences helped him develop the skills needed to handle everything from routine hoof care to advanced therapeutic and corrective work.

Nate lives year-round in Star Valley, Wyoming, and provides farrier service throughout Star Valley, Jackson Hole, and surrounding areas. Over the years he has worked on nearly every type of horse in the region, including ranch horses, rope horses, barrel horses, reiners, cutters, jumpers, dressage horses, race horses, breeding stock, outfitter horses, mounted patrol horses, and trail horses.

He offers hot or cold shoeing depending on the needs of the horse, as well as trimming, corrective shoeing, and therapeutic work. Nate is experienced in building and modifying shoes when needed, including heart bars, egg bars, straight bars, extensions, and specialty shoes. He carries a wide range of pads, packing, pour-ins, traction devices, and hoof repair materials to make sure each horse is properly fitted for the job it needs to do.

Nate also has experience working with young horses and corrective work for foals, and has the ability to build or modify shoes when necessary to help keep horses moving correctly and comfortably. In addition to his farrier work, he has taught beginner blacksmithing classes for adults, families, and youth, and continues to do ornamental blacksmithing during the winter months.

Apprentices often work alongside Nate during appointments. They assist with day-to-day work and are part of the process of learning the trade, with all work held to Nate’s standards to ensure consistency and quality of care.

Nate believes in doing the job right, being fair with customers, and taking the time needed to keep horses sound and working. His goal is simple — provide dependable, high-quality hoof care you can count on.
