Commonly Asked Questions

Do I need to shoe my horse?

Not all horses need shoes. Many horses do well barefoot, while others require shoes depending on use, terrain, and hoof quality. I will evaluate each horse and recommend what is best for soundness and long-term health.

This depends on how the horse is being used and the conditions. In many cases shoes can be pulled when riding slows down, but some horses still need support or traction through winter.

Yes. I live in Star Valley year round and work throughout Star Valley and Jackson Hole.

If your horse is lame, injured, or has a condition requiring medical treatment, a veterinarian should be involved. I regularly work with veterinarians when therapeutic or corrective shoeing is needed.

A Certified Journeyman Farrier is the highest level of certification through the American Farrier’s Association and requires advanced testing in trimming, shoeing, forging, and hoof science.

Yes, but I am a farrier, not a trainer. Horses should be reasonably safe to handle. If training is needed, it is best to work with a trainer before scheduling.

If sedation is needed, discuss it with Nate first for proper timing and handling
